Temporary Health Insurance Quotes: Providing the Bridge between the Gaps
from:
If you are currently employed, probably you enjoy the benefits you receive. Aside from the salary that you are getting every month, you have your additional allowances and incentives, eligibility for various types of loans, and of course health care benefits. While you are working for a company, you are automatically enrolled in group health insurance policy together with your co-employees. It means you are entitled to every health benefit covered in the insurance policy such as hospital confinement benefits and others.
However, being employed for life is impossible. You will end up retiring sooner or later, and all of the benefits you enjoy right now can be forfeited. When you are already unemployed, you will not receive monthly salary as well as additional incentives from your employer. Moreover, you are not entitled anymore to the health benefits in the policy availed by the company.
Probably you decide to look for some long-term health insurance policy in order to be entitled once again to the health benefits in cases of medical emergencies. However, it will take you some time before you arrive to the long-term health insurance plan you really need. If this would be the case, you may opt to avail of temporary health insurance policy while you are still searching for the long-term health plan for the rest of your retirement life.
A temporary health insurance policy, as the name implies, will be the “temporary substitute” to the previous health insurance plan you have availed, such as the one given to you by your previous employer. It also works just like the regular health insurance plan which can also cover your whole family, depending on the coverage you specified. The only difference is that since it is temporary, it only last for about one to six months. Another noted difference of temporary health insurance plans to others is that it is non-renewable, although most insurance providers allows you to apply for similar temporary health care plan when the existing one expires.
Once the application has been submitted, the coverage becomes effective within 24 hours after. On the other hand, you have also the option of deferring the effective date of the policy for up to 30 days after the approval of the policy. For instance, you want to defer the effective date of the policy for another week. You may do so provided that you will notify your health insurance provider about the deferment of effective date.
One advantage of temporary health insurance plan among the regular plans is that the process is usually fast and easy. You do not have to wait for a week or two just to be approved. All you have to do is pay a processing fee to facilitate the quick processing and approval of all your papers.
However, keep in mind that there are certain conditions that temporary health insurance plans does not cover. These include the following:
- Vision and dental care;
- Immunizations; and
- Pre-existing medical conditions such as health problems diagnosed and undergone medical treatment during the last 3 to 5 years.
Check the insurance quotes you obtained if it allows you to pay high deductibles to reduce the monthly premiums you need to pay. In addition, you may also opt to pay an annual premium to further reduce your billing costs.
Use your free quotes to compare various temporary policies from one another. However, remember that temporary health insurance plans is just a mere substitute while you are still looking for your long-term health care plan. Do not forget to cancel your temporary plan once your long-term policy becomes effective.
