Texas Children’s Health Insurance Programs
from:
If you’re in pursuit of an undeniably unique place with a unique spirit, you might probably want to ‘G.T.T.’…. know what that means? During historic times, it meant ‘gone to Texas’. You can see through a lot of windows a sign that says G.T.T. because many Americans were then migrating to the West.
Texas is undoubtedly visited by a great number of tourists because of its uniqueness. If you want adventure, like in the ‘wild wild west’, then Texas is the best place for you.
Like any other state in the US, the state of Texas also gives emphasis on the health of its citizens. It has state and federal laws that govern health insurance. Utmost attention is also given to children’s health insurance.
Your options with regards to health insurance generally depend on a person’s health status. In the event that you’re already sick before acquiring any health insurance, there are certain laws that give protection to that kind of situation. If there are laws that offer protection, other laws give limitations. Every action that you will take as you get your health insurance should be in accordance with the law.
The state of Texas offers different programs for children’s health insurance. The most prominent program is the CHIP or Children’s Health Insurance Program. This program provides health insurance to uninsured children from low income families who has difficulty or has no access at all to purchasing an affordable/cheap health insurance.
This program is divided into three categories. For children aged 19 and younger, and has no health insurance, CHIP can provide for medical expenses that the child may incur at a minimal or no cost at all. This usually depends on the family’s income.
If a family’s income is 200% of the FPL or the federal poverty level, children from these families are CHIP eligible. CHIP also provide enrollees with a comprehensive coverage which includes nurse/doctor care, health clinic care, immunization/preventive care, x-rays and lab tests, medical equipment, prescription drugs, medical transportation, dental and eye care, hospital care, well child visits and many other services.
Texas families can also avail of health programs through Children’s Medicaid. For children to qualify for Children’s Medicaid, the child should belong to a family with their assets below the established level. Deductions for expenses related to work and dependent-care expenses are allowed by Children’s Medicaid to determine the income eligibility of the families. The child should also be a legal-permanent resident of Texas.
Children’s Medicaid provides health insurance to qualified children at ‘no cost’ and as soon as the application is approved, coverage will automatically begin.
Applying for Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Children’s Medicaid is very easy. You can apply over by phone, through fax or by mail. As for Children’s Medicaid, you should renew your coverage every 6 months to be able to prevent coverage lapses.
These two programs are exclusive for families with uninsured children. If you’re a family that can afford for your own health insurance, you have a lot of health insurance choices. Look for a health insurance provider in Texas. However, most health insurance providers require a one-child policy. In case you have children instead of only one child, look into a large selection of plans and its prices.
Health insurance is a necessity in today’s time. Just because you can’t afford to get your children their own health insurance does not mean that you have no other options. Be resourceful, it’s
