And it is through the Maryland Health Insurance Plan, or MHIP. It was established by the Maryland General Assembly under the Health Insurance Safety Net Act of 2002. It is a state-administered health insurance program that is intended for Maryland residents who do not have sufficient access to health insurance. The program is administered by the Maryland Physician’s Care with the help of the Maryland state government through its public health care officials sitting as one of the board directors together with several consumer representatives.



If you will apply for the Maryland Health Insurance Plan, you will be given 4 plan options:



• The EPO Network Plan;


• The PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) Plan with deductibles worth $500;
• The PPO Plan with deductibles worth $1,000; and


• The HDP or the High Deductible Health Plan with combined medical pharmacy and medical deductible worth $2,500.



In order to be eligible to the Maryland Health Insurance Plan, you must satisfy the following requirements:



• You must be a permanent Maryland resident;


• You are not qualified to any group health insurance , COBRA, Medicaid, and other health insurance programs funded either by the state/federal government or by private entities;


• You are offered limited health insurance coverage and excluding certain health benefits, preferably pre-existing medical conditions; and


• You have been refused of an individual health insurance plan for some health reasons or possess pre-existing medical condition.



If you want to enroll with a Maryland Health Insurance Plan, all you need to do is to contact the Maryland state health department for assistance. They have staff directed for any inquiries about the state health program for uninsured and financially-incapable Maryland residents.
