For a family with several children, it is best if they get a family health insurance. If you don’t want to get large holes in your pockets every time you incur medical expenses, then purchasing for a good family health insurance is the answer to your problem.
Many families believe that family health insurance policies cover all their medical needs, but the truth is they don’t. Reading your health insurance policy is a must, in this way, you’ll find out what is and what is not covered by your family health insurance. Never assume that you have coverage, because later on when you get your medical bills, you’ll truly regret it.
Taking your time to carefully read your family health insurance policy will help you understand the entire health insurance plan. Be sure to check on the ‘exclusions’, to determine which is covered or not.
There are common health insurance exclusions, these includes the following:
1. Comfort items; this includes aspirin, cough syrup, extra pillows, and humidifiers. Most of these things are for the patient’s ‘comfort’.
2. Reconstructive/cosmetic surgery; there are certain types of reconstructive or cosmetic surgery that is not covered by health insurance plans. Other health insurance plans may cover a breast reconstruction but does not cover circumcision. You should consider what cosmetic or reconstructive surgery that a family member might undergo in the future so that you can choose a health insurance plan that covers such surgery.
3. Home-health care; due to rising medical costs, some health insurance providers cut back costs by including home-health care in their list of exclusions. If you want to be taken good care in your home if you are ill, make sure that it is covered by the plan.
4. Vision/hearing/dental care; these are not usually covered by family health insurance plans. However, there are ways to get dental/vision/hearing care assistance from other institutions or associations.
5. Reproductive issues; sterilization, hormone therapies or in-vitro fertilization are not usually covered by health insurance policies.
6. Learning disorders or behavioral problems, these things are not covered by health insurance plans. If your child has certain behavioral or learning problem, perhaps checking with local school or community will help a lot.
7. Experimental treatment; numerous diseases are ‘promised’ to be treated with all kinds of herbs, drugs and techniques. Most of these various treatments are not included in the health insurance plan coverage.
You must first know all your family health insurance plan’s exclusions before you even incur medical expenses. Besides, who would want to receive a ‘gigantic’ medical bill and finding out that the treatments were not covered in the first place.
Purchasing a family health insurance is not like going on a fishing trip. It needs careful planning and a lot of choosing to get the best family health insurance for your family.
