Affordable Health Insurance for Teenagers: Can It Happen to You?
from:
Health insurance can come for an individual or group. An individual health insurance covers an entire family (a group of people) and group health insurance plans covers a group of one.
Even teenagers are aware of the growing need of having a health insurance policy. People aged thirteen to nineteen are considered as teenagers. To get a health insurance policy, you need ability. Affordability on the other hand is a different matter. Can teenagers afford a health insurance?
Many young individuals may think that having a health insurance is unnecessary. They often think that somehow they are invincible. People whose age falls under this group have very little know-how. Of course, they are still covered by their parent’s health insurance policies. But by opening their minds at an earlier age can be helpful to them when they reach the right age.
Most teenagers don’t have the capacity to pay premiums for health insurance plans. In such case, the parents would still be the ones to pay for such premiums. This might not be a problem for those with bigger income. Having to pay for two different health insurance plans is not an extra burden to them.
What about those families with minimal income? Perhaps making their teenagers aware of the importance of having a health insurance plan is enough. Time will come when they would have to leave home and face life on their own. With such awareness in mind, these teenagers will grow up to be responsible citizens. They will most likely invest on a health insurance for their own sake, thanks to their parents.
Teenagers are not amateurs in using the Internet. Buying a health insurance online can save you a lot of time, energy and money. You can save on having to pay agent’s fees and broker’s fees.
Since you’re just a teenager, it is impossible to pay premiums on an annual basis. Don’t miss out in paying your dues even on a monthly basis.
Check for probability on a discounted health insurance. You can ask for help from your parents or from your respective local chamber of commerce.
You can also get a short term health insurance. This is typically for a period of six months and is renewable once. Some health insurance companies extend the period to twelve months. This can cover for your hospital costs, surgical and doctor’s care, intensive care, laboratory tests and x-ray. This is also known as ‘bare bones’ health insurance. Here premiums are low which a teenager can afford, application is really fast and the cover will begin immediately. This type of health insurance is flexible, short, secure, simple and affordable, though this is of temporary nature only.
The short term health insurance plan is probably the best answer for teenagers who want to get an insurance policy. This type of health insurance plan has a certain disadvantage. It doesn’t cover illnesses diagnosed for the past three to five years. This would only be disadvantageous for people, who have diagnosed illnesses, but if you’re in good health, why not go for it.
It’s better to start out early. This could serve as a strong foundation for you to become a responsible person when the right time comes. Your parents support is very much needed in this early venture of yours.
