Affordable HealthCare: The U.S. President’s Stand

from:

Health is one the basic services that the federal government is committed to deliver to the American people. Through the U.S. Health Department and different state health departments across the country, they work hand in hand to provide the health needs of Americans. Different state-run medical facilities are established to serve the health needs of the people, especially those who are financially-incapable of seeking treatment in private hospitals. In addition, various health programs are laid out every calendar year to address malnutrition among American children and preventive measures against possible disease outbreak.

One of the health programs that are spearheaded by the federal government is the affordable healthcare for the American public. Different state health departments confirmed that the number of uninsured individuals in their respective jurisdiction is growing due to the high cost of healthcare plans nowadays. For instance, Texas has the largest uninsured population among the 52 states in the country, with an estimated 5.6 million uninsured individuals, or 25 percent of the state’s total population. It is accounted for the high cost of healthcare premiums, with a family spending around $5,000 per year on monthly premium payments alone.

Thus, there is a need for an affordable healthcare with sufficient coverage for the health needs of the Americans, especially those who earns enough to sustain their family’s basic needs. Small and medium-sized businesses also need affordable healthcare plans to help them cover their employees and their dependents without sacrificing their investment.

And that is the stand that is taken by the White House through U.S. President George W. Bush. He has discussed this matter together with other concerned federal officials in May 1, 2006 which focused on the comprehensive strategy to make healthcare available and affordable to all Americans. He stressed out that in order for the present healthcare system to work for all Americans, the basic principle must take effect —that is, every American must trust the government in making the best decisions for an affordable healthcare.

The Bush administration is determined to make healthcare affordable to the American people through the endorsement of health savings account (HSA), improved transparency, and other reforms on the present health care system. It will help reduce the present high cost of healthcare in the country. In addition, through practical reforms, the private healthcare providers will realize that healthcare of sufficient coverage within an affordable price range must be a top priority and not the revenues that they can generate, thus encouraging to several innovation and change with regards to their present system.

Aside from the HSA and practical reforms, President Bush also orders the expansion of the state-managed Medicare program to cover additional health expenses of the beneficiaries and their dependents. Through the expanded Medicare program, senior citizens have an access over prescribed drugs that will be covered by the program. All American senior citizens are eligible for the program that is without or little premium payments, low deductibles, and no gaps in between coverage.

Expansion of community centers is also a target of the Bush administration that will provide primary health care for the poor individuals. In this way, they do not have to go on hospital emergency proms for some extensive healthcare. At present, there are around 3,700 health centers that will cater to the needs of more than 13 million Americans every year. Over the next 2 years, there will be funding for an additional 400 health centers that will be established on different parts of the country.

An affordable healthcare is not only the stand of the President. It is also the stand of the entire American people.
